The company is called WOWIO. They offer you downloads of 3 free books per day and a total of 30 per month. They have an excellent selection. For example, Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five is one of the selection. That is not a book you typically find on free book websites, since it is still in copyright.

I currently have downloaded two books, The Story of Mathematics and Dictionary of Mythology. If I were to purchase these books, I would be paying at least $20 per book. So, how does this site make money then or support itself?

When you read the book in a PDF file, the first page of the book is an advertisement. That is it. You can read the first advertising page and then move one to read your book without other intrusions.

They do ask, however, that you be identified by a real email address that can identify yourself. So, the traditional email sites, such as Yahoo, Hotmail, and Gmail, do not work. But, if you have an email address from a school website or perhaps another work environment, then you can use that email for WOWIO. That may be the only hesitation to use this website, but I have opted out of them spamming my email, although please read their Terms and Conditions carefully. I will let you know over the course of three or so months if my email inbox is spammed with advertisements related to WOWIO. So far, so good, however, especially since I can read books normally not available for free.

(They don't have the Harry Potter novels listed....yet, however.)

I give the site a 3.5 out of 5 at the moment.
